Introduction :
Motion is the change of location or position of an object . An object's motion is affected by the initial speed and acceleration . Different type of forces also can change ,motion which are : Gravity , Air friction – which depends on the speed of the object and its mass , the Surface friction – which depends on the size of the surface and the surface if it ruff or soft . The motion of an object can be affected . Like in the experiment we are doing we are changing t he marbles mass to see if it affects the motion of the car . My theory my hypotheses is that the motion will change as we change the mass of the marble .
Aim : to investigate the effect of marble mass on distance.
Variable: Independent: marble mass
Dependent: distance
Controls :
· same type of car
· same slope
· same force applied
Materials:10 1.5 cm books
· 30 cm ruler
· 3 meter sticks
· one plastic cup
· tape
· physics car
· 1 67.0 gram marble
· 1 18.7 gram marble
Procedure
1. Set up an experiment
2. Get two marbles of the same size but different weights
3. Weight both marbles
4. Get two thick book and three thin books
5. Set the two book together and the three together
6. Separate them in a distance of one meters
7. Place the both meters stick on top of the books side by side
8. Get a physics car an tape a cup side um
9. Place the physics car on the end of the line
10. Now gently push one of the marbles down the gap between the both meter sticks in order so it can fall on the car ( make sure to put the marble on de mark 0 cm )
11. Now measure the distance the car moved from the spot it was
12. Repeat this 4 more times ( you should have 5 trials each )
13. Now repeat 10 -12
14. You show have 5 trial for each marble
In conclusion our hypostasis was right our aim was to investigate the effect of marble mass on distance.
And we right the mass of the marble did affect the distance the car moved. When
we put the lighter marble 18.7 grams, the car didn’t move that much the average
was 16.52. But when we used the 67.0 gram marble the car moved more than we expected.
Its average was 73.32. I discovered that the higher the mass the greater the
impact will be and that the higher the slope the faster the marble goes. I also
discovered that the lighter the marble the faster it will go and it momentum
will increase. Although our experiment worked we had a lot of errors one of
them was the impulse in which throw the marble because in some of the trials we
had outlier due the impulse we threw the marble. And it might have changed some of our results
. And we might also have measured the distance from the ramp till the spot the
car stopped . I think that we should have done more trials so we could have
more experiments and more numbers so we could check if we were doing the same to all the trials .
In the end I think that mass does change distance .
